Beautiful kerala also known as God’s own country has many popular temple all over the state. They have a strong hold in the cultural fabric of the society. Many temples are located in the heart of the region and are easily accessible for peoples. Each steps of life starting from the first feeding of the baby, education and all other matters are done with the consultation from the local temple.

  Various temples are dedicated to various gods and goddesses having different ritual patterns. Almost every temples in kerala follows similarity in their architectural patterns. One of such famous temple is Kanadi kuttichathan kavu. It is one of the ancient and holy vishnumaya temple in kerala. The temple is having many epics and is situated at the south-west of Thrissur district. Thousands of devotees visits temple everyday.

The devotees believes that Hanuman swami and Chathan swami stands as the guard for SreeRama swami on either side. There is a practice continued through many years that the pilgrims going to Sabarimala, come to Sree Vishnumaya Kuttichathan Kavu to bow before the Swami and receive  blessings after performing various kinds of poojas there. It is believed that when they proceed to Sabarimala carrying the twin bundle, Chathan Swami will be with them looking after them and protecting them. This bundle is considered as the burden of the sins from the previous births and various kinds of difficulties experienced in the present life.

Story of Krishna and Vishnumaya

D evaki gave birth to her Krishna,their 8 th child, vasudev was asked to go to Gokula and swap the child with Nanda’s new born. But both of them were chained for Kamsa and he increased the number of guards. Vasudev reached Gokula and entered Nanda’s house. He placed his son there and picked the girl born for Nanda and his wife. The whole Gokula was asleep at that time. Nobody knows the things happened there. He placed the girl near Devaki. The cries of new born baby woke up the guards. Kamsa rushed into the prison and took away the child. Devaki cried and told him a girl child will not harm him and killing a girl is considered to be sinful in ancient scriptures. But Kamsa didn’t listened her words. He grabbed the child and tried to dash her against the stone. But suddenly the child flew from Kamsa’s hand and changed the form as Devi.
